What to Do After Using Your KOOTU Gas-Powered Surfboard
After an exciting ride on your KOOTU gas-powered surfboard, it's tempting to simply pack up and head home. But if you want your board to stay in excellent condition and perform smoothly for years to come, post-ride maintenance is essential. In this guide, we’ll walk you through exactly what to do after each session to protect your KOOTU board from saltwater corrosion, fuel residue, and mechanical wear.

1. Rinse Thoroughly
①Hold the surfboard up to the shore and stand upside down. Keep the intake hose down and wait until the rest of the water from the inside of the board drains out.
②Put the surfboard on the stand. Start engine, 3~4 seconds, and wait until the rest of the water from the exhaust pipe drains out.
③After riding your board in salt water, wash it with freshwater including the inner space and engine, and then let the engine run for about 5 seconds. Let the inner space dry out.
2. Dry Completely Before Storage
Moisture can lead to rust or mold if your board is stored while damp. Use a microfiber towel to wipe down all surfaces, paying special attention to joints, vents, and handle grips. Let the board air dry for 20–30 minutes before placing it in a carrying case or storage area.
3. Empty the Fuel Tank Safely (if not using for a while)
If you don’t plan to ride again within a few days, it’s a good idea to drain the fuel tank. Old gasoline can degrade and cause engine problems. Run the engine for a few seconds to burn off any remaining fuel from the carburetor, preventing clogging and buildup
4. Check for Visible Damage or Loose Parts
After cleaning, do a quick visual inspection. Look for:
Cracks in the board or hull
Loose screws or bolts
Frayed wires or damaged hoses
Oil or fuel leaks
Catching small issues early helps prevent costly repairs down the line.
5. Lubricate Moving Parts
Spray the whole engine thoroughly with WD-40 oil. Start engine again for 1~2 seconds before injecting proper amount WD-40 oil into carburetor inlet. This helps protect against corrosion and keeps everything operating smoothly.
6. Charge and Store the Battery Properly
Recharge it after each use
Store it in a cool, dry place
Disconnect the battery if storing the board long-term
Conclusion
By following these simple steps after each ride, you’ll keep your KOOTU gas-powered surfboard running at its best. Routine maintenance doesn’t just extend the lifespan of your surfboard — it also ensures every ride is as thrilling and safe as the first.
